Forest and Water Quality - Guided Hike
Saturday June 8th at 9am
at the adjacent FOREST EXPLORATION CENTER
The northeast quadrant of the County Grounds includes several natuiral areas. Together we form a co-dependent eco-system of forest, water, and fauna. One of those adjacent areas is the Forest Exploration Center who has teamed up with Cheryl Nenn of the Milwaukee Riverkeeper for a unique tour.
On this guided tour, Cheryl will discuss the important role of the forest in filtering water going into nearby waterways. You’ll learn the importance of stormwater treatment practices to improving water quality, and the value of protecting seasonal wetlands and intermittent streams like those found in and around the County Grounds Park and FEC.
Cheryl will share insights about the nearby Underwood Creek flood management system, which conveys water into the adjacent MMDS detention ponds during flood events, ultimately draining to the Menomonee River.
Cheryl has been a founding member of Friends of County Grounds Park, and active in our wildflower and tree planting events. Additionally, Cheryl has had decades of advocacy working to protect the County Grounds and Menomonee River.
Come join Cheryl for an unforgettable two hours of hiking, history, water, and forest!
THIS TOUR IS AT THE ADJACENT FOREST EXPLORATION CENTER.
